Why Microsoft & Yahoo can not beat Google ?

May 20th, 2007

A recent article Yahoo & Microsoft Have Talked Partnering, Merging talk about and interesting partnership among those two giants in their battle against Google.

I own this blog from January and I was open it mostly like an experiment to see how the heck today´s search engines will work and how much advertising will require to get some audience outside of his content value. After a few moths here are the first results…

Almost all my pages are in Google index when almost nothing on Yahoo and MSN, even if they both care coming and crawl almost daily. What they do with the results ? Only they know. When I started this website I thought that as a new comer I can get some help to make my blog spread using Google, Yahoo and Msn search engines in the first place and then manually spreading the content using other known methods. So I have submitted by website manually to all 3 search engines and waiting for the results.

After one week I get my first pages on Google.Searching on other ones: nothing. Last week I was found that article and start thinking to found some tools from Y! & MSN to improve my indexing. What I have found ? The posibility to add my feeds on Y! but no results until now.

So why Y! & MSN can´t beat Google ? Here are a few reasons.

  • They don´t provide enough free tools for the new comers. I like the Webmaster tools from Google and how they can help you to optimize your website. No alternative provided by the other two.And even if they will do something for free, I bet they will have a commercial version in place to make some more money.
  • Their indexing process is toooooooooooo slow. Damn very slow. You have to wait moths until a few of your pages get listed on their indexes.Recently they added support for sitemap format which is still not useful at all. He don´t speed things up so has been introduced just to say : Hey we have this too.
  • Both are thinking how to make more Money (BIG MONEY) in the first place and only as the second step to help internet users. If the Google guys have the same goal, they have done that in a very smart way. What you don´t know, don´t hearts you right ? All their tools are free. Even the subscription in the AdWords program is opened for all kind of websites at an very affordable price.
  • No free access in their directory. While Google has just took the dmoz.org directory as their partners you have no chance to get listed on Y! Directory without paying a lot of money.

Don´t get me wrong.I hate that I am forced to use ONLY Google tools because I have no other similar alternative.I wish from the deep of my heart to see in the next future some similar free tools from other providers, but if those tools will come they will not from MSN & Y!. Those two giants just can´t say the word “Free” and “Help” if you don´t pay them in some ways.

There are a lot of voices saying that Google get´s evil and they start eating all the Internet business. Damn if I will be upset if they eat both MSN and Y!. Looks like in the last 10 Years no initiative from those two have coming closer to ones from Google and I think will be the same for the next 10.

Hope that by then to see this page indexed on MSN and Y! too :) .

Yahoo and MSN are slower than Google but are there, in few months your site will be indexed by other two.

    Good luck.
